I have a 7 inch wrist and find the new explorer 2 to big and clunky. The previous generation is far better in size on my wrist. Love the orange hand and dial on the new one. The Explorer was meant to be a 36mm watch, the 39 seems like it was a ten year experiment that didn't pan out. The narrow taper feels small at first, but you get used to it after a while, and the clasp itself is about 16mm wide. Proportionally, the changes work . I'm seriously mulling a Rolex Explorer II 216570 but am concerned about my 6.3" wrists. Tried it on at an AD but of course the AD insists it looks fine (don't trust the buggers, they're just trying to move the piece).
It looks a little small in the 1st picture. Looks fine in the rest of the photos. I would keep it unless you can exchange with no penalty. I was just looking at my 34MM Precision on my 7” wrist which I wear daily. My 36mm and 41mm get less wrist time. So it’s a personal choice.
