All came with the proper declaration paperwork and I was never charged any duties on any of them. You need to declare your watch when you come back to Canada. With the new trade agreement with EU, some have said the luxury duty is gone, but you still pay the taxes of whatever province you enter Canada. Traveling back with a new watch from Europe to Canada then into the US. The price is reasonable/ slightly cheaper than NYC prices with tax. I have to fly into Canada then into the us.
When returning home to a non-EU country (the U.S., China, Japan, and Canada among many others), generally you must declare every single thing you purchased during your trip abroad. Don’t forget whatever you purchased at the airport like a watch at an airport boutique or an authorized dealer. I wanted to share my customs experience bringing my first Rolex in from Europe. I purchased the watch on 07/2022 at the Amsterdam Airport. Now, note that when you request a VAT refund you give your passport, which is registered in the system.
Just curious for those who are located in Canada and have bought watches from Liechtenstein, Germany, or USA - did you have to pay import fees? Will these fees likely be the same no matter where I buy from or how is this determined?
Short of a one-off sale or watches that can't be brought stateside, is it ever a better deal to by a watch (jewelry) in the EU and bring it back via customs?
